So you wanna know who the Lollipop Bitches are, eh? Well, the story begins in Vancouver, B.C. This is in Canada for those of you who didn't know. The year, 1993. Macy Malone and Kari Ash met each other on a bus going to the mall. Both had mutual friends that hung out there and Macy worked at a record store in the mall. Yes, I said "record" store which tells you how long ago this was. At the time, Macy was wearing round-toed cowboy boots and Kari thought it was hilarious. The two of them were both trying to get bands together but couldn't find people to work with. Kari told Macy if he got rid of the boots he'd be willing to play in a band with him. Macy dumped the boots and the two started jamming. For ages they couldn't find a singer. People were either too old or they just couldn't sing. They put an ad out in some local paper looking for a singer and bass player to complete their group and found a couple of guys who seemed like they'd work. They named the band The Sweethearts. The Sweethearts played for a while but didn't last. The singer left for L.A. but the bass player stayed and wanted to stick it out with Kari and Macy. Who is he? The infamous Bill E. ---1995--- Bill E, (pronounced the way it's spelled) was into the Sex Pistols and the Zeros so right away Kari and Macy knew they'd have a cool band. His bass playing was really punk influenced so they thought "Why not mix punk with glam?" It worked. They played a few shows (you can count them on your hand) and recorded a self financed demo. After playing more shows and recording a second demo the Lollipop Bitches met up with a local promoter/manager Dave Maye. Dave basically gave them shows so they could get exposure. A local club called Club Paradise in New Westminster is where he promoted. The crowd draws were good so he thought he could make stars out of them. He wanted them to film a video for a song called "Lollipop Bitches Show" so he payed to have them record the song in a studio. The song was finished overnight and in the next couple of days they were scheduled to film the video. When they showed up, Dave had been arrested (for reasons unknown) and the video shoot was cancelled. There would never be a second shot at filming. The band broke up in 1997 but Macy and Kari stayed in touch. It's a sad ending to great band but their legacy lives on in the hearts of their fans.
